I just returned from the Succulent Extravaganza at Succulent Gardens, and as usual was wowed by the variety of colors and textures that succulents provide.

Succulents are easy to clump together in decorative patterns and tapestries.  Anyone who has been paying attention to gardening trends has been seeing them in vertical gardens, roof tops, container designs, and mass planting patterns.  Robin Stockwell, who founded Succulent Gardens, has a special talent for combining succulents in art pieces, such as this Living Heart, using colorful sedums and sempervivums.

The artwork is so large though, it is hard to believe it is constructed of so many little succulents.  To tell that part of the story I needed to get close.

Now that is fun.  Don’t just snap the first photo you see – think about the story you want to tell.
